VfL Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst would ‘fit very well’ at Arsenal, according to the club’s former manager Andries Jonker.
Weghorst was linked with a move to the Premier League throughout the summer, after racking up 20 goals and five assists in 43 games across all competitions last season.
Arsenal were regularly named among his potential suitors, with claims they were looking at him as a replacement for Pierre Emerick Aubameyang should he leave.
Indeed, at one point Weghorst was regularly quizzed about the potential interest, making it clear he would like the move and need to sit down with Wolfsburg should anything come of it.
Ultimately nothing did, with Aubameyang signing a new three-year deal to stay at Arsenal and them instead spending their money on other areas of the squad.
Whether he would have actually fitted in at Arsenal is hugely debatable but former Wolfsburg boss Jonker has no such doubts.
“Journalists called me and asked if he would be able to play for Arsenal,” he told SportBuzzer.
“If you can be successful in the Bundesliga in Wolfsburg and if you keep knocking on the door of the Dutch national team, then you have to be able to be successful in England too.
“I’m not thinking of clubs like Manchester City or Chelsea, but all other clubs fit. So Arsenal would fit very well.”
