Even for the Nicolas Pepe summer saga, today has been a bit all over the place.

His agents arrived in Italy to meet with Napoli officials and that of course sent the Italian sport media into overdrive.

Over in France, La Voix du Nord reported the Italy trip and also said Lille have ‘global agreements’ with several clubs. Napoli, Manchester United and Inter Milan were those named.

Le10 Sport have confidently pushed out an exclusive on Thursday evening, saying that actually the race is between Arsenal and Napoli.

Those two are in the ‘final stretch’ of a battle to sign the player, and Arsenal have been linked multiple times.

At one point there was a claim of an €80m offer from Unai Emery’s side, which didn’t make a great deal of sense given the Gunners budget this summer. English media close to Arsenal then denied this.

Le10 say Arsenal and Napoli are ahead of Manchester United and Inter Milan in the race, and now it’s a case of the player deciding what he wants.

They believe Napoli have the advantage, which makes sense given the very public agent trip today.
