Philippe Coutinho’s decision to join Aston Villa on a loan deal from Barcelona in January has paid off as he’s not only enjoyed regular game time at Villa Park, but has also returned to Tite’s Brazil squad for the ongoing international break.

The attacking midfielder has four goals and three assists from 10 league appearances for Villa and his displays for Steven Gerrard’s side have resulted in interest from Arsenal.

Last weekend, Sport reported the north London club are ‘studying the possibility’ to sign the 29-year-old in the summer.

Thursday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo states the former Liverpool star’s performances for Aston Villa have seen Gerrard publicly ask his employer to buy the player. Apart from that, he has also ‘aroused the interest’ of other teams and among them is Arsenal.

It’s said the Gunners ‘enter the fight’ for the Brazil international and have ‘already been in contact’ with his environment ‘to be placed in the list of suitors’.

Mikel Arteta’s side are in the driving seat to qualify for next season’s Champions League and this is something Aston Villa cannot offer the Barcelona owned player.

He and his family are comfortable in Birmingham, despite the fact that they have always liked London. Mundo explains this could be ‘another of Arsenal’s attractions to value when the time comes’.

Coutinho, for now, aims to finish the season well at Villa Park and will ‘not decide his future until May’.
