If you know who Anthony Goelzer is, then fair enough, but we’re going to go ahead and guess the vast majority of the UK population aren’t avid Ligue 2 watchers, so the 20-year-old left-back’s existence will be news to you.

Currently contracted to Valenciennes, the young defender has been a semi-regular for the French side this season, appearing six times in 11 league games so far, including playing the full 90 minutes in a 4-2 win against Lens.

Still, he’s some way off his dream, which he revealed to La Voix du Nord, who are going around the Ligue 2 side asking their players “if you were…” questions.

When reaching the “if you were an agent, where would you send yourself” part of the interview, Goelzer didn’t think twice over declaring his Arsenal intentions.

He said: “Arsenal, it’s my dream, or at least in the Premier League. It’s an incomparable league with loads of huge teams. All the games are tight, there’s no lull in the game with a lot of intensity. It’s great to watch.”

So, if Unai Emery is in need of a left-back, he now knows where to look, although it seems unlikely that’ll happen just yet, seeing as Goelzer has yet to fully break through at Valenciennes, and both Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac stand in his way.

He’s only 20, though, so there’s plenty of time for him to get there eventually.
