Early on Tuesday, L’Equipe had a rather interesting article about Andoni Zubizarreta and Arsenal.

Failing to attract Monchi, who returned to Sevilla for a second stint, the Gunners are still on the lookout for a new director of football to help Unai Emery, and it appears the Marseille employee is the new favourite.

Said to be ‘bored’ of how things are going in the south of France, Zubizarreta is allegedly ‘tempted’ to leave his current post and join Arsenal.

This news, whether this helps you believe it or not, has also been backed by TuttoMercatoWeb, who state Raul Sanllehi is ‘thinking about’ the Marseille man.

The other person on their shortlist is Robert Fernandez, who also worked with the Arsenal chief at Barcelona.

Sanllehi reportedly wants someone he knows well to work alongside him, and both Zubizarreta and Fernandez fit that bill.

With an important ‘summit’ in the United States scheduled for next week to discuss Arsenal’s project going forward, having the list narrowed down to two candidates is certainly a step in the right direction.
