Regardless of how much the Catalan media wanted, at one stage, Hector Bellerin to return to Barcelona, the transfer never happened.
Whether that means there never was any interest or that the right-back was too expensive for the La Liga side, we’ll never really know, but it’s fair to say the Spaniard is seemingly always happy when new links of a return emerge.
This time, it isn’t the Catalan media who stir the pot, but online retailer Mr Porter, who have an interview with the Arsenal defender about fashion.
Right at the end, after the 23-year-old complained about the lack of taste some footballers have, Bellerin was asked about a transfer, because we all know a chat with a footballer cannot be complete without such a question.
When told there was reported interest from Juventus, Barcelona and Chelsea, Bellerin said: “I don’t know what to say – football always changes. I’m so happy here. This has been my home for seven years. I sound like a Londoner, my friends are from London – it’s the place I want to be right now.
“In the future, you never know. Obviously, I grew up in Barcelona, and when I watch them play I want them to win. The team are always going to be in my heart.”
This isn’t the first time Bellerin has used ‘you never know’ and ‘football always changes’ to answer the question, and, while understandable since he grew up there, his love for Barcelona once again comes through, suggesting he wouldn’t exactly be against a return there if it presented itself to him.
It’s been a while since the his former club have shown any interest, and, judging by previous reports from the local press, they don’t seem to be all that keen on him these days.
Basically, if someone comes in for him, we doubt Barcelona will provide them with tough competition.
