Arsenal’s deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino could be done ‘between today and tomorrow’.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who report the player is sitting out of training as negotiations over his future rumble on.
They say that ‘everything points’ to the midfielder being close to sealing a move to Arsenal and the soap opera around him coming to end.
Real Sociedad have already rejected a €30m plus €5m offer from Arsenal but yesterday say president Jokin Aperribay fly to London to try and unblock the situation.
That’s had consequences as it’s seen Merino left out of training today as he waits for the agreement between the clubs to finalised and him return to the Premier League.
Officially that absence is because of ‘lumbar discomfort’ but the reality is that an agreement is close to being reached and could happen ‘between today and tomorrow’.
Aperribay’s idea is to obtain at least €40m between a fixed price and variables and has accepted this can be paid in instalments to help facilitate the transfer.
Merino has already agreed the terms of his deal with Arsenal and wants the move. He sees it as a great opportunity in his career and he could soon be given the green light to make the switch.
