Towards the end of last week, Arsenal made a €36m offer for Houssem Aouar, which was rejected by Lyon. The French club have been looking for €50m for their midfielder and insist they’re under no pressure to sell, despite reports in recent months suggesting otherwise.

RMC report the Gunners will return with a second attempt, but they’re creeping up with the amount rather than making a leap to get closer to Lyon’s asking price.

The new Arsenal offer is going to be €38m, report RMC, and it’s assumed that will also be rejected by the Ligue 1 side.

When the first offer was reported, it was stated by some that Aouar had agreed personal terms with Arsenal already. This was a mistake or a mistranslation, with the French claims saying he’d agreed to the move, not that a contract had already been negotiated.

Jean-Michel Aulas, Lyon’s president, will try his best to hold firm on the value in the coming days, and it’s almost certain the Premier League club will have to pay more than €40m.
