Arsenal were mentioned as a potential suitor for Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman in the last summer transfer window.
There were also indications the Gunners were being used in the saga to attract Paris Saint-Germain’s attention towards the Nigeria international.
Lookman’s situation has flared up again over the past few days. Atalanta were knocked out of the Champions League at the hands of Club Brugge, leading to manager Gian Piero Gasperini publicly criticising the forward, who took to social media to respond to the Italian.
Calciomercato have reported on the ongoing strife between Lookman and Gasperini. They state that a farewell from Bergamo seems very likely for the 27-year-old.
Arsenal could ‘return to charge’ for him and so can Liverpool, with the report stating both clubs were keen in the summer.
A deal would be more likely this year because of his reduced price, which could be less than €60m. The player also harbours the desire for a new experience and is also of interest to clubs like Juventus and Napoli.
Whether Arsenal’s interest is concrete or not remains to be seen but the Gunners will have to be cautious as it could be another attempt to attract other clubs to the race.
