The Italian media today shares some quite bad news for Arsenal regarding their pursuit of Fiorentina youngster Michael Kayode.
As written by Calcio Mercato, the fullback has just signed a new contract with La Viola, and is committing himself to the club until 2028.
The outlet highlights how, by doing that, the player ‘rejected’ a move to the Premier League, where Arsenal wanted him.
It’s said his performances for Fiorentina had been drawing scouts from several English clubs, and Arsenal were ‘above all’, as they ‘observed’ him more than anyone else and were impressed with his quality.
Contract renewals sometimes work for clubs to protect themselves against the market and to argue for bigger transfer fees. This seems to be a more complicated case, with Calcio Mercato saying the Italian side have absolutely no intention of letting Kayode go so soon.
In reality, that’s probably related to the January window, and next summer would provide a better chance.
Arsenal’s interest had been well known, and it seems the Gunners will have to wait if he remains a target, or they’ll need very good arguments to convince Fiorentina of a sale. The fullback is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €5m, but should cost a few million more.
