Just yesterday, we covered a story from Mundo Deportivo regarding Arsenal’s interest in Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez.
The story claimed the Gunners ‘intend to push hard’ to sign the player, as they’ve been monitoring him closely for months now.
That piece claimed Rodriguez wasn’t the only Betis player being followed by Arsenal, as the London side had their eye on some other unnamed targets.
On Tuesday, Mundo Deportivo brings a new story, this time saying the Gunners are following fullback Emerson Royal as well.
It’s said that Arsenal are ‘closely monitoring’ the player ahead of a potential move in the ‘winter market’, although that’s probably just a little mistake in their text.
Emerson’s situation is a little complicated, because when moving from Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro, he first joined Betis for a pre-agreed two and a half years, at which point Barcelona have the option to bring him to the Camp Nou.
The Catalan club need to decide this in the coming transfer window, and if they do, they must pay a fee of €6m to acquire his services + €3m in plus value.
Should that happen Betis would still retain 20% of the player, which becomes 50% if Ronald Koeman’s side decide to sell before January 2022 (to prevent them making a quick buck).
Betis are said to be aware of Arsenal’s interest, but even to them, the player’s future remains a ‘mystery’ for the time being as Emerson isn’t exactly needed at Barcelona following Sergiño Dest’s recent performances.
Mundo Deportivo doesn’t say how much the Camp Nou side would demand for the player, but point out he’s currently valued by Transfermarkt at €25m.
