It’s Arsenal who lead the race to sign Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio, according to claims from Portugal.
This week, reports stated Liverpool have been chasing the centre-back, with claims recent injuries have encouraged Jurgen Klopp to look towards the market. Newspaper A Bola shows up to make it clear – at least as they see it – that it’s the Gunners who are in front.
The outlet writes that Arsenal are the ‘best positioned’ to win the race for Inácio, while Sporting already accept that they could lose him in January.
The Lions are doing their best to keep the defender, and that’s why it’s well known that he won’t leave for less than his €60m release clause.
The problem is that not even that stance is expected to stop his departure, as there’s big interest in him and Arsenal are well-placed to ‘advance for the signing’.
Sporting have just signed Rafael Silva for their defence, and even though he’s supposed to arrive to add depth to the squad, it’s quite possible he’ll end up becoming Inácio’s immediate substitute.
With just a few days until the start of the winter market, we shall see when Arsenal will make their attempt and whether Liverpool can claw back their position.
