Arsenal and Chelsea are to battle with and Bayern Munich for Athletic Club Bilbao star Nico Williams this summer, according to Thursday’s edition of AS.

The Spain international impressed this season, managing 11 goals and seven assists from 45 games. He also impressed for La Roja by managing a goal and an assist in their 5-4 win over France in the UEFA Nations League semi-final.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayern in particular are among the clubs that have ‘courted [him] in a special way’.

The winger has been attracting interest from those three clubs and others. His suitors are aware of his €58m release clause, and the report says this is ‘affordable’, considering the 22-year-old’s status.

AS’ title says Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayern are ‘considering signing Nico’. The Basque club are aware of this and are trying to fend these interested clubs by renewing his contract.

Williams has a contract until 2027, and AS state Athletic have been negotiating for weeks over improved terms. The two parties are in talks to reduce the gap, while his suitors are considering paying his €58m clause.

If Williams were to leave, AS explain it’ll be for a top club where he can win trophies and improve his salary. Bayern and Chelsea have won trophies this season while Arsenal have been competing for the title over the past few seasons.
