Dutch defender Jurrien Timber was supposed to end up at Arsenal, having always supported them as a youngster.
That’s according to his brother Quinten Timber, who says the defender was a big fan of the Gunners from a young age.
Timber joined the Gunners in a in a €40m move in July last year after developing through the various youth ranks at Ajax after joining them from Feyenoord in 2014.
He went on to establish himself as a key player for the Dutch side and was highly thought of at the club, with several transfer windows seeing him linked with a big money move to the Premier League.
That eventually happened last summer when Arsenal decided to splash the cash on him and make him a part of the side being developed by Mikel Arteta.
He’s yet to get going at the Emirates after suffering a cruciate ligament tear back in August but his brother insists that he’ll be determined to bounce back from that and prove himself in England, having long dreamed of starring for Arsenal.
“After the match against West Ham United, we had a photo with Thierry Henry,” he told De Telegraaf, relayed by Utrecht Fans.
“Everyone knows what kind of player he was, and I thought it was special to see him. I mainly know him from his time at Barcelona.
“I didn’t really experience his period at Arsenal, I was still a bit too young then. I love English football. Jurriën has that too. As a child, Arsenal was already his number one club.
“That’s why it’s extra. It’s great that he plays there now. I didn’t have a favorite club myself, but I do enjoy watching the Premier League.
“It’s a great level and a very high pace. That’s ultimately what I strive for. It’s a dream to be there to play one day myself.”
