Arsenal youngster Alexei Rojas is set to take part in the U-20 World Cup with Colombia.
It’s Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra who brings that news today, claiming the Gunners have ‘accepted’ the request from the national team.
Rojas is set to leave Arsenal and ‘will travel in the next few days’ to Bogota, where he will meet the squad prior to their trip to Argentina, where the tournament is being hosted.
That’s very good news for Colombia, because several national teams are having trouble having their full U-20 available for the competition.
Since the U-20 World Cup is taking place between the 20th of May and 11th of June, that means several clubs are in a crucial part of the season, and are not willing to let their youngsters go.
Some cases like Rojas’ are obviously easier, since he’s not yet ready to be an important player for Arsenal’s first-team and won’t be really missed in this short period.
The goalkeeper, who arrived at the Gunners’ academy in 2019, has been playing for their U-18 and U-21 levels, and is still to make his debut for the national team.
