Arne Slot has been backed to enjoy success at Liverpool, by former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie.
Van Persie has been speaking to EPSN in the Netherlands as he was officially presented by SC Heerenveen as their new manager.
The move is the former striker’s first into management after several years working at Feyenoord following his retirement in 2019 after spells with Feyenoord, Arsenal, Manchester United and Fenerbahce.
He worked as a technical coach and youth manager at various levels at the club, meaning he’s been able to assess incoming Liverpool manager Arne Slot up close.
The Dutchman was confirmed as the new Liverpool manager on Monday, bringing an end to a three year stay in charge of the Eredivisie side in which he’s won 97 of 148 games in charge and won both the title and the Dutch cup.
He’s now tasked with building Liverpool post Jurgen Klopp, an unenviable task given the legacy the German will leave behind at Anfield after nine years at the club.
That’s not a problem, though, according to the former Manchester United striker, who is confident that Slot will be a success.
“I think very well, very well,” Van Persie told ESPN when asked how he expects Slot to do at Anfield.
“How he wants to play is in line with Klopp’s style of play and what they are used to there. I expect them to do very well.
“Liverpool is one of the nicer clubs in England. I have been able to play for two other very nice clubs. Slot has already been able to practice well at Feyenoord in that rhythm.
“But there (England) it goes very hard and fast for eleven to 11.5 months a year. It is a very nice, new opportunity for him. I believe it will go very well.”
