Arne Slot lost his first match as Liverpool manager at the weekend, with Nottingham Forest putting in a good performance to beat the Reds 1-0 at Anfield.

Liverpool are currently fourth in the Premier League and this week Slot will face a different challenge as he takes his squad to Italy for a Champions League match against AC Milan.

Generally, all is going well for the Dutchman at Anfield, and there hasn’t yet been any mass dramas over losing Jurgen Klopp in the summer.

The same cannot be said for what Slot has left behind in Rotterdam. Feyenoord finished last season in second position, seven points behind Eredivisie winner PSV.

After playing four league matches so far in this campaign, they find themselves in sixth. They do have a game in hand on most of those above, and winning that could take them to fourth.

A bigger issue is PSV running away with it again, with five wins from five matches.

AD.nl journalist Hugo Borst has, in his typical way, set aim for Slot’s successor Brian Priske and gone way over the top in his early judgement.

After an awful lot of waffling, Borst says supporters are already losing faith in the new Feyenoord manager.

They’ve lost multiple players, got a tough Champions League draw, and there’s negativity around the place. of course, neither of those is any fault of Priske.

But Slot, and missing him, is inevitably dragged into things: ‘Uncertainty is rampant. Loyal fans watch Liverpool matches to catch a glimpse of Arne Slot’s shiny skull. So close he is, the Saviour who performed miracles for three years – and by the way lost at home to a brilliantly organised Nottingham Forest on Saturday.’

Borst believes that near enough anyone would have failed to replace Slot, but also that Priske and Feyenoord resemble a ‘mismatch made in hell’.
