Matias Soule’s future at AS Roma remains uncertain and discussions have been held with Aston Villa and West Ham.
Sport Witness have repeatedly covered how the Argentine can leave the Serie A side this summer. This is mainly due to financial reasons, as the versatile attacker’s exit can hand Roma a big capital gain. This will keep them clear of their troubles with UEFA FFP.
As a result, Aston Villa have been pushed as a suitor by the Italian press. No formal moves have been made, with Borussia Dortmund also competing for the 23-year-old.
Now, West Ham are also in the picture to sign Soule and initial moves have been made.
Discussions set to continue
Journalist Eleonora Trotta has reported that Soule’s entourage is actively trying to find a new club for the Roma player.
In the process, they have spoken to both Aston Villa and West Ham about a transfer. Dortmund remain in the fray but interest has also grown from Bayer Leverkusen, who have already spoken to Roma for Kerim Alajbegovic.
So far, none of the suitors have made any formal approaches. But discussions with all the clubs are set to continue.
Soule remains ‘content’ in Rome but he may not have a say about his situation. He is now third choice under Gian Piero Gasperini and is aware of this fact. This can drive his exit forward, with Roma having to earn capital gains before 30th June.
Hammers move unlikely
It would be a shock to see Soule play in the Championship, which should rule out a move to West Ham.
Aston Villa have been in the frame for a while but they don’t seem to have made a formal move either.
There is every chance they don’t make a formal offer at all. This would make Dortmund or Leverkusen the favourites to sign him. Those two clubs have a habit of developing younger players and a move to Germany may just suit Soule.
He needs another period of development and a club where he can be the first-choice. Aston Villa may not be able to offer that.
