Manchester City had a bid for the Boca Juniors youngster Rodrigo Betancur turned down, Argentine newspaper Olé has revealed.

City, alongside Atletico Madrid, have reportedly made offers recently, but Boca Juniors said no because they considered it wasn’t enough money to sell the 19-year-old.

CapturarThe Argentine side had accepted an offer from Real Madrid, but due to the FIFA ban which forbids the Galacticos from making signings, the transfer could not be completed.

Reports from earlier this year said Real Madrid would be offering around €15m for the player, so Manchester City’s offer was very probably of less than that amount.

Despite the offer mentioned, Pep Guardiola’s side haven’t been recently linked to the midfielder. The strongest rumours all mention Juventus, who would be preparing a bid.

Labelled the ‘new Fernando Gago’, Betancur has been impressing at Boca Juniors since his youth years. Even after making a few mistakes here and there, the club’s huge fan base keeps having big faith in his development.
