AIK Fotboll have identified Stoke City’s Jordan Thompson as an alternative to Hull City’s Xavier Simons.
On January 20th, we covered claims from Sweden which stated AIK had made initial contacts to sign the Hull City player.
Expressen now provide the latest on 21-year-old Simons and the Stoke City player as AIK are aiming to improve their midfield in the winter market.
They tried to sign the Hull City midfielder in recent weeks, but he isn’t keen on making a switch to Sweden.
The report adds AIK sporting director Thomas Berntsen has confirmed the track leading to Simons has been abandoned.
This has seen the Swedish club look at other options in the market and their focus is now on Thompson. The Northern Ireland international is ‘highly relevant’ at AIK, and they have initiated contacts with his agent.
Expressen state the two parties [likely AIK and Thompson’s agent] are in talks over a potential move. They are unaware if the Swedish giants have made an offer to Stoke City.
Thompson, 28, has less than six months left on his contract and the winter market will be the Potters’ last chance to earn a fee.
