Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah has admitted “anything can happen” this summer as he continues to be linked with a move to West Ham United.
That’s according to Kicker, who cover comments from the player today and detail the situation around the centre-back.
Tah has been linked with a move to the London Stadium for several months, particularly as he’s a player that Tim Steidten knows well.
A report earlier this month continued to insist he was a player that West Ham were keen on as they rebuild their squad this summer with the money from Declan Rice’s sale to Arsenal.
Kicker now report that Tah ‘wants to leave’ Leverkusen this summer to prove himself in the Premier League.
He made that decision in the January transfer window and has not changed his mind since, which is why he chose a new agent in the winter.
A move shouldn’t be difficult for either party to secure as, despite his ‘relatively cheap’ release clause of €18m having expired earlier this month, he shouldn’t cost much more than that figure.
The belief is that West Ham could now move as they have the funds from selling Rice, a deal that needed to go through before Steidten knew what budget he was working with.
Tah is very much on their list of options and ‘it cannot be ruled out’ that Tah will become someone they target despite his clause having expired.
He’d be more than keen on the move too, having again outlined his desire to move to England this summer.
“The market is still open. Anything can happen,” he said.
“Of course, I’m aware of what I have here, and I appreciate that. But I’m the same open and listen to other things.
“There was also interest from other leagues, but it has always been my goal to play in the Premier League at some point.
“Because it’s simply the best league. Competing at this level is attractive, of course also at my age.”
