With the Manchester United route pretty much drying up, and PSG not making the effort it was hoped they would, a new destination needs to be found for James Rodriguez. This doesn’t mean the Colombian international will end up at whichever club chosen, but the Madrid media need someone to pick out as interested to keep alive the hopes of Madrid getting a big chunk of money.

That money, along with expected income from Alvaro Morata, is set to be used in a chase for Kylian Mbappe, so it’s a vital cog of the rumour mill.

Chelsea are the latest club dragged into the agenda, and AS claim in their Sunday edition that Antonio Conte has asked Chelsea for both Alvaro Morata and James. With Manchester United currently the most strongly linked to Morata, that leaves James, and AS believe Real Madrid will receive around €70-80m for a transfer.

Inter Milan and Bayern Munich are both credited with interest, but it’s not thought either club will go close to what Madrid want. The Spanish newspaper say Real Madrid won’t stand in the player’s way should an acceptable offer arrive.

Therefore, if Chelsea make an offer anything like the figures reported, theres a good chance the player will end up at Stamford Bridge.

That’s of course if, and it’s a big if, Chelsea are as interested as AS claim.
