It seems Feyenoord are not very hopeful that Newcastle United loanee Yankuba Minteh will stay with them for another season.
With eight goals and three assists in 29 appearances so far, the youngster is showing good potential at the Dutch side, proving his signing was completely worth it.
Now as Feyenoord manager Arne Slot was interviewed by Ziggo Sport, FR12 shares some of his quotes on the Newcastle player.
Even though the coach hopes Minteh will continue with his development, he’s also gutted that this is a sign he’ll soon be gone from the Eredivisie side.
“He has mostly played a lot in his native country, where very little tactics are involved. When you’re that fast, though, it’s a huge weapon. One action and he’s gone, then you don’t catch up with him either. I think his choices are already getting better in the final stages. The only annoying thing for us is that if his choices get really good, he probably won’t play with us anymore,” said Slot.
The Dutch media is ever so slightly obsessed with Minteh’s time at Feyenoord, and there’s been negative and positive takes, the former being boosted by his recent ‘absurdly good data’ at the club.
That makes it possible that Newcastle will bring him back to St. James’ Park at the end of the season, although it remains to be seen whether they’ll give him some chances to prove himself.
The Magpies spent €8m to sign him from Odense last summer, and even before playing for the club, he’s already valued by Transfermarkt at €12m.
