With less than 48 hours left in the transfer window, clubs are frantically trying to get deals over the line, and that includes Borussia Dortmund, who are keen on Southampton’s Armel Bella-Kotchap.

The defender would ideally like to leave St Mary’s to be able to compete at a higher level, and a move to the Bundesliga would certainly do that.

While talks have taken place between Southampton and the Germans, and the player seems to have an agreement with the Bundesliga side, it’s the Saints’ Rasmus Ankersen currently standing in the way of it all, as explained by Sport 1 journalist Patrick Berger.

Taking to Twitter, he states that the Sport Republic CEO is currently asking Dortmund for an €8m fee just to secure a loan for the centre-back.

That is described as ‘way too much’ for them as things stand, but that doesn’t mean a deal is ‘completely off’.

They will continue trying, but while a deal is ‘still possible’, Berger does point out that it is ‘more unlikely than a few days ago’.

Therefore, if Southampton do want to secure this exit, they will have to lower their demands.

That being said, considering what Ankersen is asking for, our guess is they would much rather keep Bella-Kotchap around.
