West Ham United have taken advantage of Juventus’ failure to agree a deal with OGC Nice and made the decisive push to sign Jean-Clair Todibo on Thursday. This has paid off and he’s now close to joining the Premier League side.
Earlier on Friday, Gianluca Di Marzio stated the 24-year-old is scheduled to undergo West Ham medical later today.
Calciomercato cover the anger in Italy over letting West Ham snatch the centre-back from the Serie A side’s clutches.
The Turin club were convinced they could get this deal over the line. Todibo was initially determined to join the Old Lady, but changed his mind because they couldn’t find an agreement with the Ligue 1 side.
Juve have already signed Douglas Luiz, Michele Di Gregorio, Khéphren Thuram and Juan David Cabal this summer. They have to get rid of several players to bring in more players requested by Thiago Motta.
Calciomercato say West Ham’s ‘mockery’ to beat Juve to Todibo and them missing out on other deals, including Riccardo Calafiori, is mainly because of their ‘obsession’ to sign Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners.
They have invested most of their time and resources in this deal and haven’t managed to get it over the line yet. The Italian club are running out of time to sign the Dutchman and must change their strategy after Todibo decided to join West Ham.
In reality they were just too confident, maybe even too cocky, that Todibo would keep rejecting West Ham all summer.
