Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi is yet to find a new club but a move to Newcastle United is seen as a probable scenario, with Nottingham Forest also in the race.
The midfielder endured a frustrating 2025/26 campaign at the Nerazzurri. He played around 500 minutes in Serie A and in the Champions League, he featured for less than 300 minutes.
In January, Frattesi appeared close to joining Nottingham Forest, with Sport Witness being close to the coverage. A deal was nearing completion, however, the Nerazzurri’s failure to sign Curtis Jones as a replacement made sure that the Italian stayed at Inter.
Things didn’t improve, and he remained a mere back-up for Cristian Chivu’s side, despite some injury problems in midfield.
With the player set to depart, Newcastle United are a leading candidate for his signature.
Agent clear about exit
Frattesi’s agent Giuseppe Riso – who Newcastle United fans will know from Sandro Tonali – has spoken about his client’s future. He made it clear discussions with Inter will take place soon.
He said – via Calciomercato: “I still have to meet with Inter, as soon as I meet them we’ll know. It’s an evolving situation, there are situations, but first I have to talk to them about it.”
Riso was also asked about the option of joining Juventus, but he discarded it… for now.
“Is the Juventus option still open? I won’t discuss these things before speaking to Inter. It doesn’t seem right to me.”
Magpies leading the race
Calciomercato go deeper into the Italy international’s situation, clarifying that he remains open to the Premier League.
As a result, ‘the first is Newcastle’ in the race for Frattesi. The Magpies have a very good working relationship with Riso, who also represented Sandro Tonali and helped him move to Tottenham.
Nottingham Forest are second in the race. They too worked have with Riso closely in the past, having signed Lorenzo Lucca in January.
No Serie A clubs apart from Juve have stepped forward for Frattesi yet, this makes England the likeliest destination for him.
Our take: Player could want European football
Last season, both Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest were playing in Europe. That probably put them in a good position to sign Frattesi, who has regularly played in the Champions League at Inter.
Now, neither are playing in Europe. That is one reason why the 26-year-old may not be as keen as he was last season. This could lead him staying in Serie A, especially as Riso has worked with many Italian clubs.
