Incoming Manchester United boss Rúben Amorim has insisted he won’t look to sign any Sporting Club de Portugal players in the January transfer window but can’t make the same promise for next summer.
Mais Futebol have comments from the Sporting boss today in which he revealed some of his transfer plans ahead of his move to Manchester United.
Amorim will be taking charge at Old Trafford next week after being appointed as Erik ten Hag’s replacement last week.
He’ll inherit a squad that was specifically built for his predecessor, with several of the signings in the summer, and those before then, players that Te Hag had previously worked with.
How Amorim will adapt that squad to the system and style he employs, on the basis he doesn’t change from what’s been successful at Sporting, is already being debated.
Some believe that he may move to reunite with former players come the January transfer window, with Victor Gyökeres, the current Sporting star, already linked.
Amorim, though, appears determined to burst those bubbles early, insisting he has no intent to return to his former club in January.
“In January I’m not going to get anyone from Sporting,” he said.
“That’s what I said, in the summer and I don’t know what I’m going to do. The main point is to hold on until the summer. Second point, you can see that Sporting players are great players. Let’s see what will happen.”
