Manchester United have turned their attention to potentially signing a midfielder late in the window.
The Red Devils were focusing on Carlos Baleba before reportedly deciding not to make advances, after Brighton & Hove Albion refused to sell him. Since then, a few alternatives have been named, including Sporting’s Morten Hjulmand.
Juventus have been chasing the 26-year-old throughout this summer. Three days ago, Tuttosport reported the Serie A side could risk missing out if Manchester United were to make advances.
Thursday’s edition of Correio da Manhã coversclaims of Manchester United’s interest and provides the Lions’ stance on the midfielder.
It’s claimed Ruben Amorim’s side made an approach for the Denmark international, but they were blocked by the Primeira Liga winners. Sporting president Frederico Varandas is refusing to release him to Manchester United or anyone else.
The newspaper add Varandas wants to reward Hjulmand with a new contract that will see him improve his salary.
Due to Sporting’s stance, Correio da Manhã say ‘Amorim gives up’ on his former player and Manchester United would have to consider other targets.
