To say that Will Still has ruffled a few feathers with his interviews over the past few months would be an understatement, with everything starting when he allegedly met Sunderland to discuss their vacant position in December.
The Black Cats eventually hired Micheal Beale, but the former Rangers manager only lasted 12 games, meaning the Championship side had to go back to square one.
Sunderland will reassess the situation at the end of the season, which is when Will Still could become available, having made it once again clear that he wants a move to England in the near future, this time speaking to L’Equipe’s podcast L’Enfer du Banc.
While he doesn’t mention Sunderland directly, the 31-year-old made it clear he is aiming high, to the point where if he did agree to take over at the Stadium of Light, the move would merely be a stepping stone for what he wants to achieve.
“I want to go work in England, because it’s my home country, it’s home, what I’ve always known. I want to win as many titles as possible, to work in the biggest clubs because why wouldn’t I want that. I think everyone would like to do it, but if it doesn’t happen or the opportunity doesn’t present itself, I wouldn’t struggle to accept it.”
At this point, Sunderland are in no position to offer him Premier League football, let alone Champions League football, meaning he would have to work a chunk of time in the north of England before getting anywhere near that main aim of his.
Perhaps this is something Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and co. would be happy to accommodate if they did hire the young manager, but fans of the club are warned to not get too attached if he is hired in the summer.
