Having sold Wesley Fofana to Chelsea, Leicester City desperately needed a new centre-back at the club, and threw what they could at Stade de Reims to sign Wout Faes.
The 24-year-old has started the last seven games for the Foxes under Brendan Rodgers, and has been one of the reasons they have been able to pick up a number of points against the likes of Crystal Palace, Leeds and Wolves.
Leicester kept clean sheets in all of those, with Faes playing well, and this form has earned him a chance to play for Belgium at the World Cup.
Nothing is guaranteed just yet, but he has been named as a potential inclusion in Roberto Martínez’s squad, with some going as far as suggesting he should start at the back in the competition.
DH’s Jonathan Lange, when trying to put together a starting XI for his country, mentioned the Leicester City star as part of a back three alongside Toby Alderweireld and Arthur Theate.
He said: “Regarding the defence, a rejuvenated one with Faes. I have to admit, he amazes me. I wasn’t expecting him at that level with Leicester, where he is doing a world of good. To replace Wesley Fofana at the end of a transfer window, that’s strong.”
