Goncalo Guedes moved to Benfica on loan in the January transfer window, having made 13 Premier League appearances for Wolves in the current season.
Those appearances brought one goal and one assist, and the return to the Lisbon club was agreed with the plan to get the 26-year-old’s career back on track.
An assist in his first Liga Portugal match and a goal is his first Taca de Portugal tie saw things get off to a good start, and there was huge optimism around the Wolves loan player.
Unfortunately, not too long after, Guedes picked up a meniscus injury. That threatened to ruin his time at Benfica and make a permanent move unlikely.
However, A Bola say that’s not the case, and they state the Portuguese side have already decided to move for Guedes again in the summer.
That idea is ‘already defined’, and it’s such a big story it takes A Bola’s front page on Friday. What isn’t defined is the offer which will be made to Wolves.
Such an offer could be a loan, with or without purchase option, or a permanent transfer… which it even suggested Benfica could buy ‘part’ of the player.
There’s no doubt in Lisbon that this will be an expensive deal, whatever the formula, but Benfica are determined to secure Guedes.
