Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has revealed all behind the big confrontation and tense atmosphere in Argentina’s win over Brazil this week.

The Liverpool star has been speaking to TyC Sports, who held a quick chat with the midfielder in the mixed zone after Argentina beat Brazil 4-1 in World Cup qualifying.

As is often the case between the two fierce rivals, tensions were high before during and after the game as the two clashed once more.

This tie was given extra spice because of comments made before by Barcelona’s Raphinha, who had insisted his team would come out victorious in a strong statement that backfired mightily.

He was targeted throughout the game and part of a big incident afterwards in which he was restrained by Endrick following what appeared to be a deliberate bump in the tunnel by Emiliano Martinez.

Words were then exchanged with Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes and Brazilian players had to intervene, with Newcastle’s Joelinton eventually diverting him away.

Liverpool’s Mac Allister was a bystander for the most part and went some way to explaining what had gone on afterwards.

“Something similar, but well, very happy, very happy because the team played a very good game. I think we were able to win in every aspect of the game, and well, it obviously feels very good, especially because of everything that was said before the game,” he said.

“There was some discussion on the pitch. He tried to explain that maybe the translation wasn’t the best. Honestly, I don’t know Portuguese.

“I think Ota (Nicolas Otamendi), told him that he started all this, all this anger that wasn’t necessary, and he said that maybe the translation wasn’t the best.

“But well, I don’t, I don’t know why… The translator got to him! And well, I don’t know Portuguese, I didn’t see the video, or anything.”
