Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez has given an exclusive interview to ESPN Brasil, mostly celebrating the great season so far he’s having under Arsene Wenger.
As the chat happened before Sunday’s 1-1 draw with the Spurs, the player was still commenting on the atmosphere he was expecting for the game. And he was not afraid to compare it to one of the biggest matches in world football: “It’s the same feeling I had with Madrid and Barcelona. You see the same atmosphere between fans and people.”
Asked if the Premier League’s style suits him best, he said: “Truth is that football here delights me. To go and go back, to attack, defend, attack, defend. We like it and it’s also good to watch.”
Comparing this season’s Arsenal squad to the one before, the player says the signings weren’t the only improvement, but the new mentality also: “I believe we’re more concentrated. I believe the ambition is the same. We’re more focused on the details, which is more important. As I said before, when the eleven who play aren’t well, those on the bench can sort it out.”
Sanchez was also asked if the rumours that he doesn’t like to be rested by Arsene Wenger are true: “He told me to rest, but I don’t like to rest. Neither in the matches. I don’t like to be out, I get upset, I go home sad, because I train to play, I rest to play. It’s my job and I do everything to perform at 100%.”
ESPN described Sanchez as having the best moment of his career. He has eight goals and seven assists so far, and seems to have finally taken the responsibility to be the main star for both club and country.
