The last thing Tottenham Hotspur fans probably want right now is a reminder of how good they used to have it.
But they were given a stern reminder of that in Belgium this week, as Het Laatste Niuews details. They cover a nice reunion between Harry Kane and Toby Alderweireld after Bayern Munich took on Union Saint-Gilloise.
Kane was the star man in the game once again, bagging a double to help Bayern to all three points. He could have had a hattrick but fired a second penalty against the crossbar when presented with the opportunity.
Fortunately, that didn’t matter as Bayern ran out 2-0 winners anyway, despite a 63rd minute red card for Kin Min-jae.
After the game, Kane was then interviewed by his Tottenham teammate, Toby Alderweireld. The latter was a pundit for the game and keen to speak to his former Spurs teammate as a result.
The pair played 207 games together for Tottenham from 2015 to 2021. They were key members of a side that flourished under Mauricio Pochettino, reaching the 2019 Champions League final.
Tottenham memories as Kane still plays on
Those are good memories, to say the least, and the pair had something of a Tottenham love-in after the game.
“How are you, Toby? We haven’t spoken in a while, but I hope you and your family are doing well. Let’s see each other soon,” said Kane.
“We’ve shared so many wonderful moments together,” added Alderweireld.
“When I hear my former Tottenham teammate, it’s always special. In the 2014/15 season, when I was still playing for Southampton for a year, Kane was called a ‘one-hit wonder.’
“From then on, he’s scored at least 30 penalties every season. He’s a fantastic person, but also a true winner. After every training session, he’d take at least 15 penalties. (laughs) From now on, that will be 16, right? Because he missed one.”
