Tottenham Hotspur have endured a difficult campaign this season.
Spurs managed only three wins in their first 12 league matches and this forced the north London club to show Mauricio Pochettino the exit door on November 19th. Hours later, José Mourinho was announced as his successor.
Tottenham were eliminated from the Champions League and the FA Cup under the Portuguese tactician’s guidance. They are currently eighth in the league with 41 points and are seven points behind fourth placed Chelsea.
Spurs’ poor run in recent months is partly down to losing Harry Kane and Heung-min Son to injuries and it forced Mourinho to use Lucas Moura to lead his side’s attack. The Brazilian, however, has great expectations from Spurs for next season.
“Our team was not in such a good moment, eliminated in all competitions and fighting to reach the top four of the Premier League, but the expectation for the next season is great,” Lance reported the Brazilian as saying.
“Mourinho took over the team and it’s not easy. The expectation is to qualify for the Champions League and for the next season, is to start well from the pre-season, with a new philosophy and aim for big things.”
Moura managed 15 goals and two assists in 49 appearances last season and has seven goals and three assists in 39 matches this term. The winger insists he’s enjoying a good reason, even though stats suggest otherwise.
“It is a very positive moment for me, personally speaking. In terms of numbers it is not the best season, but following games and performances, I was very satisfied, with the confidence of the coach,” he said.
“It was the best run of games I have had since I arrived in Europe. I am very happy and feeling more and more comfortable and more relaxed on the pitch.”
