Morgan Sanson has returned to Aston Villa after spending the second half of last season on loan at RC Strasbourg, where he managed a goal and two assists from 18 league games.

The temporary move not only allowed him to enjoy regular game time but also helped him relaunch his career after his struggles at Villa Park.

Foot Mercato state the Aston Villa player’s displays for Strasbourg were enough to ‘seduce’ OGC Nice, who are keen to sign him.

It’s claimed the Ligue 1 side have ‘reached an agreement’ with the Villans to take the 28-year-old on loan with a buying option. The details of the agreement haven’t been clarified by the source.

Strasbourg wanted to retain the midfielder while Lille also wanted him this summer. Foot Mercato, however, explain that it was Nice who ‘made the difference’ in the end.

Journalist Sébastien Denis covered this report and took to Twitter to add that Sanson will sign for the French club in the ‘next few hours’.

Sanson joined Aston Villa from Marseille in 2021 and made 23 appearances for them. He now looks set to continue his career in France.
