The Belgian media can’t decide whether Anderlecht are trying to sign Chancel Mbemba, or Newcastle United are trying to force the defender upon the club.
First there came claims Mbemba wouldn’t consider a return to Belgian football because he didn’t want to look like a failure, and that there was no interest from the biggest clubs anyway.
And then it was claimed Newcastle had offered him as part of a double deal, with Matz Sels, to Anderlecht.
DH report that Anderlecht are interested, and they throw it in with the Sels situation, just like another Belgian newspaper, HLN, had already done on Thursday.
The headline reads ‘Sels and Mbemba: an agreement before Monday?’ and it’s explained the ‘goal’ is to finalise the Sels transfer before the Bank Holiday.
Unlike some others, DH insist Anderlecht are very much keen on Mbemba, it’s not something Newcastle have just dreamed up.
Rather than a double deal, it’s explained the transfers could be split, with the aim of getting one over the line sooner rather than later.
