Some weeks ago, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest were linked with a move for Feyenoord star Igor Paixao.

The winger has impressed for the Dutch club this season, scoring 12 league goals. He also has two Champions League goals, racking up four assists and acquiring the reputation of someone who lifts fans from their seats.

Napoli have emerged as a competitor for Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest in the race for the Brazilian.

It now seems as if the Naples club are stealing a march on the English sides.

Il Mattino, as relayed by CalcioNapoli24, have reported that Napoli have scouted Paixao multiple times and their groundwork has rewarded them.

Antonio Conte’s side have an agreement with the player already – something that Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest don’t.

He is still being ‘constantly followed’ by Napoli but hope for the two Premier League clubs can come in the form of Feyenoord.

They want a fee of €25m to sell Paixao and the Partenopei are yet to agree terms over that. That is the hope dangled for Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, who will presumably find it easier to pay that fee than Napoli.
