Reports from the Italian media today sound pretty sure that Wilfried Gnonto is leaving Leeds United this summer.
It’s a story from Calcio Web that talks about it, claiming ‘there is an agreement’ for the player to return to Serie A.
The outlet repeatedly highlights that Leeds are ‘in the abyss’, as they risk relegation to the Championship, and that scenario would make Gnonto’s price ‘collapse’ this summer.
It’s Sassuolo who are said to be making a ‘decisive shot’ to sign the striker. Calcio Web claims the deal ‘could be concluded’ for between €10m and €15m.
The website is the only one reporting the advanced talks for now, so maybe we should wait for other big outlets to confirm it.
Leeds’ potential relegation definitely brings the price of their players down, but still, it would be strange to see them selling Gnonto for just that.
The striker was signed from FC Zurich in a €4.5m deal last summer, and following the potential shown at Leeds, he’s already valued by Transfermarkt at €18m.
The 19-year-old was also linked to bigger Italian clubs in the past few months, so Sassuolo wouldn’t have such an easy job to get him.
