Inter Milan could be an option for Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, according to a report from Italy.
The Italian champions are set to sign FC Porto’s Mehdi Taremi on a free transfer and are also looking to bring in another attacker in the summer window.
According to InterLive.it, the Serie A side have been presented with an opportunity to sign the Newcastle star.
The England international joined the Magpies from Everton in January 2023 and signed a deal until 2026. He starred for Eddie Howe’s side in the recently concluded season, scoring 12 goals and registering 11 assists from 48 games.
Gordon is represented by Unique Sports Group, who also manage Inter star Hakan Çalhanoğlu. The agents are allegedly working behind the scenes to take the player away from Newcastle and have ‘proposed’ him to the Italian club.
It’s claimed the Tyneside club want at least €60m for the former Everton man and that puts the attacker out of the Serie A winners’ reach.
Gordan’s agents can try, but Inter aren’t ready to meet Newcastle’s request. In addition to this, their priority is to sign Genoa star Albert Gudmundsson in the next window.
This feels like an opportunistic attempt to build a deal, something which happens quite a lot in Italy. Even if it’s true and real efforts are being made, there’s every chance neither Gordon or Newcastle know anything about it.
The plan is often to agree a deal and then present to the player and selling club, but given Inter don’t seem keen then this one ends there.
