Manchester United are expected to make a ‘decisive assault’ to sign Atalanta star Rasmus Højlund, according to today’s Gazzetta dello Sport.
Erik ten Hag has been courting the striker for several months and he’s keen on making a switch to Old Trafford as it has been his dream to join them.
Manchester United are joined by Paris Saint-Germain in the chase for the 20-year-old. It’s said the Serie A side have been informed by his agents of their desire to take him elsewhere this summer.
Gazzetta state are two key factors for the two suitors to ‘unblock’ the negotiations and the first one is to meet the €70m price tag set by the Italian club.
Atalanta have no financial need but have still decided to sell the Denmark international, as long as it’s on their terms. They are against the idea of having other player[s] included as part of the deal.
Although there have been claims of Manchester United offering €50m plus €10m bonuses, the newspaper states they haven’t taken an ‘official step’ just yet. That’s because agents are ‘acting as a bridge’ between the two clubs.
It’s claimed Højlund’s agents have ‘raised the level of pressing’ and this can be considered as Manchester United’s firm desire to secure his services.
Gazzetta even suggest it could be ‘matter of hours’ before Ten Hag’s side make a new offer.
The second factor is Atalanta want to sell the player as soon as possible so that they can bring in his replacement, like they are set to replace Jeremie Boga with El Bilal Touré.
With all parties keen to carry out the deal, there would be progress, as long as the Red Devils make an improved offer.
