Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier is trying to help Atlético Madrid sign Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.
That’s according to Monday’s edition of AS, who say Atlético director Andrea Berta is determined to secure the Chelsea player’s services.
Berta can use the Newcastle defender as an ‘ally’ in his side’s pursuit of the 24-year-old midfielder.
The 33-year-old spent over 18 months with the La Liga side before moving to Newcastle in January 2022. He knows what it is like to represent Los Rojiblancos and live in Madrid.
Gallagher and the right-back were both part of the England squad that lost the Euros final to Spain earlier this month. During their time in Germany, the newspaper claims Trippier spoke highly of Atlético to the Chelsea midfielder, and asked him to consider joining them.
Diego Simeone’s side are aware of Gallagher’s desire to make a switch to Madrid and they will do everything they can to try and sign him in this window.
The Englishman’s contract at Chelsea lasts until 2025. Atlético have already made a €20m offer, which was turned down by the Blues. AS say they are willing to let Gallagher leave if the Madrid club were to make an improved offer.
