Last week, we saw the Paraguayan media reporting that Chelsea are interested in the signing of Palmeiras centre-back Gustavo Gomez.

Outlet La Nacion managed to learn from people ‘close to the player’ that the Blues made an ‘enquiry’ eyeing the transfer of the 28-year-old.

Now journalist Jorge Nicola went after this story, and spoke about it with his sources from Palmeiras.

The reporter learned that there’s been no contacts between Chelsea and the Brazilian club so far, and it’s said the Blues didn’t directly make any approaches and didn’t send any documents.

What actually happened is that Gomez’s agent, Renato Bittar, told Palmeiras that Chelsea are interested in the player, and there’s a conversation, or negotiation, with the Premier League side.

Nicola claims that the Brazilian club are actually very calm regarding the situation, and wouldn’t let him leave for less than €14m.

Palmeiras signed Gomez on a loan from Milan in 2018, and made the move permanent last year.

The club spent around €5m in total, and in case they decide to sell him now, they’d eye the quick profit they’d make.
