Early today we covered Italian reports which stated Nikola Milenkovic is set to join Nottingham Forest, and will be flying to England soon to go through his medical tests with the club.
The finances of the deal were put at around €12m plus bonuses, which is a lot less than Fiorentina have looked to get on previous occasions. Milenkovic has been linked with multiple Premier League clubs in recent years, with West Ham the one which stands out.
For a while there were endless claims of West Ham interest, and it felt like every time the Hammers tried, La Viola were just looking for a few million extra and ended up pushing their luck too far.
Whereas Transfermarkt once had the defender’s value at €35m, it’s now down to €15m.
Some believe Fiorentina have waited too long to sell and are therefore getting less from Nottingham Forest than they could have got from elsewhere not so long ago.
TMW quote well-known Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito as saying: “Players must be sold at the right time and perhaps his time was when he was close to West Ham. Today in my opinion Fiorentina cannot expect big figures. Paradoxically if he leaves, Fiorentina will be forced to spend the same money, or even more, for a profile to replace him. At this point however I would let him go and I would bring in a younger player.”
