On Friday, we covered reports from France which said Tottenham would be interested in signing the Sporting captain Adrien Silva.
L’Equipe’s article said Spurs would be considering to make a €15m bid for the midfielder, and he reportedly counts Mauricio Pochettino as a big fan.
Now all the Saturday papers in Portugal are publishing these claims, with some giving their own take on the news.
A Bola claims that a €15m offer is too low to convince the Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho, who wants to hold his stars.
They also claim that before making the bid, Arsenal need to get rid of some midfielders first, clearly mistaking the Spurs for their London rivals.
Record talked to the player’s agent, Jonathan Maareca, who denied an approach: “We weren’t contacted by Tottenham.”
It’s weird that a French newspaper breaks news about an English club’s interest in a Portuguese player. But it’s worth remembering that Jonathan Maareca’s company Classico Sports in based in… France.
Adrien is well protected by a contract until 2020 with a €45m release clause. He was also linked to Everton recently, with Ronald Koeman being mentioned as an admirer of his abilities.
