Arsenal’s Jorginho took advantage of the international break and made a trip to Rio de Janeiro with his family.
The midfielder travelled at a time when Flamengo have publicly expressed their desire to sign him. Last week, Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista urged the club’s fans to pray that Jorginho’s partner ends up liking the city.
Journalist Venê Casagrande took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state that the Arsenal player’s trip to Brazil has been a success.
He claims Flamengo found out via the 33-year-old’s representatives that his partner likes the Brazilian city, and this can help them close the negotiations.
The Brazil-born Italy international’s contract expires in Juen and hasn’t yet signed a pre-contract agreement with Flamengo. The agents involved in the negotiations are optimistic of a positive outcome.
Jorginho’s agent João Santos told the English media he’ll hold talks with Arsenal and other interested parties from Brazil and Saudi Arabia after April 15th.
UOL relay that and then provide the latest on Flamengo’s efforts to sign Jorginho. He has close ties with former Italy manager Roberto Mancini, who is currently managing Saudi Arabia.
Mancini was expected to replace Thiago Motta at Juventus, but that’s been ruled out after they appointed Igor Tudor as Motta’s successor on Sunday. This, for now, should diminish the Old Lady’s chances of securing his services.
Flamengo have qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup that will kick off on June 14th in the US. If they were to secure an agreement with the midfielder, it’ll be difficult for them to have him in the squad in America.
Jorginho will receive significant bonuses for completing his contract that expires on June 30th. If Flamengo were to reach an agreement, he will need Arsenal’s approval to be part of their squad for the FIFA Club World Cup.
UOL state his agent has to convince Arsenal to sanction an early release and pay the bonuses he’s entitled to receive.
