Barcelona could consider bringing Tottenham Hotspur’s Luka Vušković to La Liga after this season.

That’s according to Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, who cover Barcelona’s stance on the possibility of signing the defender.

Last summer, the Croatia international arrived at Tottenham, after they’d agreed a deal in advance with Hadjuk Split.

Towards the end of August, Spurs sent him on a season-long loan deal to Hamburg SV.

The centre-back played 24 matches in all competitions for the Bundesliga side, managing five goals and an assist, and his fine displays haven’t gone unnoticed.

Vušković has repeatedly talked about his desire to continue at Hamburg, to play with his brother, Mario. The latter is at the German club but is been serving a doping ban until November.

Barcelona interest in Tottenham man backed up

Three days ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany that Hansi Flick’s side have held first talks with his agent.

Later that day, we relayed news from Spain that it won’t be easy for Barca to take the 19-year-old away from Tottenham.

Mundo now report Vušković is an option for the Spanish giants if Andreas Christensen decides to leave the Camp Nou. The 29-year-old Dane’s contract expires in June and he’s been offered a two-year extension.

Should he turn it down, the Camp Nou side will look to sign a young defender, and this is where Vušković comes into the picture.

Agent says clarity in two months

The Croatian has a contract at the north London club until 2030. Transfermarkt‘s value is €40m while Mundo state his price is around €60m.

Vušković’s representative Pini Zahavi has good ties with Barcelona and their president, Joan Laporta. He also represents Flick and Robert Lewandowski. Mundo have relayed the agent’s comments on the Tottenham owned player’s future.

When asked about the Barca approach, he said: “I can’t comment at this time. The player still belongs to Hamburg and is completely focused there.”

“I can provide updates in exactly two months.”

Our take: Tottenham should retain Vušković

The defender is one of the brightest young talents in Europe and it’s no surprise big clubs are keeping tabs on him.

Last month, his compatriot, Ivan Rakitić, urged him to dump Spurs for Bayern Munich, who are also in the mix.

Vušković’s valuation is only going to rise and he could become one of the top defenders in the world in the near future. Therefore, it would be a mistake if Tottenham were to sell him in the summer.

That said, saving themselves from relegation is the absolute priority right now. That will impact everything in the summer, including whether they can keep the Croatian or not.
