Earlier today we covered claims from Germany that Jean-Philippe Gbamin has ‘almost reached an agreement’ to sign for Everton this summer.
The Mainz player is seen as a replacement for Idrissa Gana Gueye, and it’s not the first time the Merseyside club have been linked.
Mainz are said to be looking for €35m for Gbamin but Everton are looking to push that price down, although it’s a fee they’ll be able to cover given the €30m they’ll be getting for Gueye when that move goes through.
A transfer looked very possible, and now it does even more so.
The player’s agent Bernard Collignon has been speaking to Le Parisien about the potential move to Goodison Park, and the French newspaper quote him as saying: “Jean-Philippe is attracted by the idea of joining Everton. To discover the championship of England in a club of the top part of table would represent for him a very beautiful opportunity and a very good step.”
Le Parisien estimate a fee at €25-30m, and given they’ve been speaking to the agent there’s a reasonable chance that’s where their figure has come from.
Their interest is due to Gueye, and it’s stated that a financial agreement with Everton isn’t in doubt and the figure is put at €32.5m. A source close to the transfer has told Le Parisien that a salary agreement has been reached, but no medical has yet been scheduled for the Everton player.
