Sunderland and West Ham United are among the clubs credited with interest in AC Milan’s Santiago Giménez.
Over the past week or so, the Italian media have covered Sunderland’s desire to sign him in the winter market.
A week ago, Sport Mediaset stated the Black Cats have made contact with his agent. Two days later, La Repubblica reported Sunderland are ready to offer €30m for the 24-year-old.
On Tuesday, we covered claims from Italy that West Ham are also keen. Milan hope the Hammers make a significant offer for the striker and could join Sunderland in the bidding war.
ESPN have spoken to the Mexico international’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, for an update on his future at the San Siro.
Although several Italian claims have reported Sunderland and West Ham are keen, ESPN make no mention of any English clubs. The representative, however, said she isn’t surprised with the Premier League links.
“If the Premier League want him, it doesn’t surprise me that they do. It seems normal to me that one or two or three clubs might be interested, but the idea of him leaving Milan is non-existent,” she said.
Despite the January exit links, the agent says Milan aren’t thinking about parting ways with Giménez. She isn’t pleased with the media reports about her client.
“Santi arrived at Milan in January, a Milan that wasn’t top of the league, so to speak. A Milan that was struggling, because that’s not a very pleasant situation,” Pimenta explained.
“And now, Santi, all the actions, messages, and words I have with Milan have always been positive. There hasn’t been a single moment where Milan has told me, ‘Things aren’t going well,’ but all the press talks. It’s getting too much. When I call Milan, Milan always tells me, ‘No, we’re fine, thank you’.”
