For the past few weeks, reports from Brazil have discussed Flamengo’s plan to sign Aston Villa’s Philippe Coutinho on loan in the winter market.
The Villans made the attacking midfielder’s stay permanent in the summer, and he has struggled this season, failing to score a goal or register an assist.
Globo Esporte state the Brazil international’s situation at the club is undefined after Unai Emery’s arrival at Villa Park. Despite this, the 30-year-old continues to draw interest from his home country.
Corinthians have now probed the possibility of signing the former Liverpool star. Their football department see him as a ‘high-level player’, who is of interest to them and other Brazilian clubs.
At the moment, Corinthians have only carried out polls. Coutinho’s agent Kia Joorabchian is willing to help his client leave Aston Villa for the Brazilian club. The report further adds there is a ‘real chance’ for him to return to his homeland.
The representative told Globo he “will do his best” for this transfer to take shape. He has good ties with Corinthians, having helped them sign Willian and Vítor Pereira in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
Coutinho’s current salary at Aston Villa is three times more than Corinthians’ top earner. Even if Emery’s side were to let him go out on loan, the operation will be expensive for the South American club.
Although the Coutinho operation is expensive for Corinthians, Joorabchian’s comments will give them hope to carry out a deal in January.
